There are two key steps for the final approval towards a new product launch such as ULTRAPAD:

1 /A wear test at high temperature

2 / A noise test (squeal) to achieve a silent and therefore more comfortable braking.

The key element that makes our products stand out from others in the market is linked to the constant research and development processes that make our products available and stable at all demanding levels.

LITTON´s philosophy as regards research and development aims at meeting the user’s high expectations from safety to a comfortable braking. Our constant work pursues aims, which are ahead of the usual ones within the friction industry.

LITTON brake pad sets that have been an indisputable market leader for the last 15 years are famous for their efficient braking, low wear away and maximum care of the disc brake, overcoming thoroughly the rest of the available products in our business area.


Before carrying out road test (driving in city and road) trials, tests and friction of new materials by means of dynamic tests are performed; our equipment has high tech emulation software, which allows getting specific results in different braking situations.
The quality of our friction materials is monitored on a daily basis, using this modern equipment that simulates all real use conditions and it is connected to a computerized board in which results are collected and analyzed.

In order to ensure a better product performance in any circumstance, more than 100 different tests are carried out. These kinds of tests are considered within the testing specified in the United Nations regulation 90.


Equipment used for measuring the friction coefficient, under international regulations, which are compulsory in the Argentine Republic. This is the only equipment that can be used to approve CHAS regulation that has been in force and effect in our country since 2001.


This specific test is carried out in order to prove that the mechanical features of the friction material fit certain key referential values as regards compressibility (brake pedal stroke) and also with its features of mechanical resistance.

Using a specific test device in compliance with international regulations the brake pad set rate is checked in heat and cool conditions. Compressibility is an important feature in the friction material, as said material must be compressible in order to achieve a better brake disc adjusting, and compressibility must also be able to absorbing vibrations.
A very high warm compressibility could give originate serious displacements of brake fluids and it could be then an exhaustion of the brake pedal stroke and a consequent vehicle control loss that may suddenly affect its braking power.

Shearing stress trial

The shear force is the friction material resistance to be separated from the support when a tangential strength works on it. This variable is extremely important because the brake pads are not only subject to normal strength against the disc but also to big tangential efforts made by the disc when trying to drag the brake pads towards the rotation direction.
Material resistance to be separated from the metallic support by means of a tangential strength on both surfaces is measured using a special devise in accordance with specific regulations.

Manufacturers take corrective measures to achieve greater adherence between the support and the friction material, using a different adhesive and studying its relation with the friction material and therefore friction features are fulfilled.
It is essential that these tests are performed periodically and constantly in order to detect any non-compliance.

LITTON, in its science friction laboratory, performs this and other trials on a daily basis in order to ensure quality product..

That is the reason why trials performed in other facilities rather than their own are not useful when it comes to guarantee quality. These trials must be carried out periodically to able to achieve true use and therefore to be valid.


This is the final step of the ULTRAPAD product tests

LITTON has formed a trial fleet of about 50 vehicles of which some are owned and others hired. Specific trials are constantly performed in these vehicles in different areas in the country, keeping a continuous follow-up of friction material behavior, which have already been approved by our physical laboratory.

Trials and chemical investigation

LITTON has implemented a specific control method for each one of the products used; this method is performed before applying it in the final formula of the product.

Our concept applied from chemical area is to always provide only the best materials.
The main objectives to be fulfilled by this area which are essential in this organization are to ensure quality and to audit our supplier’s processes, in order to keep up with our quality control requirements which allow us to provide the total reliability or our new products.
The chemical area analyzes and approves or rejects raw materials for the production process, identifying and developing our suppliers constantly.
